When the pandemic was in full swing and the stay-at-home order was in place, I got to thinking about my summer decor and after a few Pinterest searches, I instantly knew I wanted something fresh, clean, and a pop of color – lemons! Now I’ve never been a big fan of the color yellow, but it was so cheery in such an unprecedented time, so I thought I’d give it a try + it would be quite the challenge to try and decorate when all the stores are closed as far as allowing people inside, so I said “Challenge Accepted” and got to work! I started with my front door area, since Easter was over and it’s the first area people see! My welcome sign from Sawdust and Sweet Tea has an interchangeable “O” and I had a lemon slice that worked perfectly! I wanted a door hanger to match and since I was “bored in the house, bored in the house, bored” I decided to paint my own! Next, for the inside of the house, I ordered some artificial lemons from Amazon and placed them throughout the main living area and kitchen as an accent! I used target drive-up to order some lemon heads to put in my precious initial candy dish from bed, bath, and beyond to be extra festive! I placed an online curbside pick up order at At Home for the dishtowels and I got the Nora Fleming napkin holder for my birthday from Marcie-n-Me and added the lemon mini attachment so it was perfect! I changed out the letters on my felt memo board from Walmart to a cute lemon quote! I also lucked up and saw a Dollar Tree ad for the lemon dinnerware and glasses and of course had to snag those up! I called and placed my order and had them delivered to a local store for pick-up! Everything came together so nicely and surprisingly pretty cheap considering I couldn’t go in store and hunt for deals! I used coupons everywhere I could, so always be sure to look for coupons online before ordering or going in store! Typically when I go out shopping, I create an album in my phone and save all of my coupons for the day of where I need to go! I also be sure to compare prices online before I place an order. I use the google honey app on my laptop and when I reach checkout at any store online, it runs all possible coupon codes out there to ensure I’m getting the best deal. If you don’t have the honey app, I highly recommend downloading it! I’m so excited about my decor for summer and it already brings so much joy to the house, so I hope these ideas and shopping tips will bring you joy, too! Have a great Memorial Day! Xoxo, Kass Like many of you, I had no idea my spring break would turn into basically my summer break. When I got the email March 12, I had a flood of emotions coming over me. Worry, for how I was going to get the grades I wanted by teaching myself. Anxiety, for how I was going to find the motivation to actually do my work. I also felt myself feeling happy, for I could finally be home with my family and Chris for a long time. The transition from being a seated student to an online student wasn’t easy. Having never done online courses, finding motivation was tough. The best thing that helped me was sticking to as much of my normal schedule as possible. Listening to online recorded lectures during my usual class time, studying a little bit every day so I didn’t get behind. Here we are at the end of the semester, and all I can feel is stress for finals, but in the midst of that is a sigh of relief. WE DID IT. We are in the homestretch, y’all! Summer is almost here, so for now just study hard, say your prayers, get some rest, and kill those finals! XOXO, Kam Hi! I'm assuming you are either here because you love coffee as much as I do and followed our link to find out what this awesome coffee drink was, or some how you wandered to our page and thought this drink looked delicious and was curious! Either way, you made it and I am so excited to share this recipe with you! When I first found out about the "whipped coffee" through a friend, I was super excited to try it! Once I tried it, I was even more excited to share it with y'all! It is so simple and only THREE ingredients that you most likely have at your house or could easily have placed with a Target drive up order (am I right?) ***Full warning, this is a pretty strong drink, so if you are like me and don't have a sensitivity to caffeine, then you're good to go (thanks, college), but if you do have a sensitivity to caffeine, I would suggest more milk, less whipped coffee! Let's get started! (Ignore my Easter decor, I haven't had a chance to change it out!) Things you will need:
Ingredients you will need:
STEP ONE: Combine your instant coffee, sugar, and hot water in a bowl. STEP TWO: Either hand whisk or use an electric hand mixer until the mixture is a light caramel brown color and fluffy. (I have found that the electric mixer is a lot quicker - about 3-5 minutes) STEP THREE: Pour a glass of milk (or your choice of creamer) over ice (weird, I know!), spoon the whipped coffee mixture over the milk with ice, stir with a straw and ENJOY! I added a sprinkle of cinnamon to give it a little extra "umph", so feel free to get creative in flavor, and like I said before, this is strong so you may want to refrain from making this your midnight snack!! Thanks for whipping coffee with me!! Xoxo, Kassidy “Homegirl” is a slogan that I first found on a t-shirt from The Mint Julep boutique. The message behind the shirt is, “Feed a health hero & their family.” 100% of the proceeds go to feed a healthcare hero & their family. When I came across the shirts, I instantly, absolutely loved them. The meaning behind the shirts made them even better. I’ve always been someone who wants to help in anyway I can, so I didn’t hesitate once in supporting this. My sisters & I were all on board for supporting this T-shirt, what it means, & all the health heroes that are sacrificing their lives right now. Some we know personally & some are even our family.
It got me thinking about everything & how much we truly take for granted as humans. The stay at home order is almost like when you get a paper cut on your finger. You never realize how often something touches that part of your hand until you have a paper cut. Well, with the stay at home order we never realize how often we go places, how often we’re on the go, how often we eat out, how often we don’t spend time with the family we live with, or how much money we spend while doing all of those things. The stay at home order also goes back to thought that “you want what you can’t have.” Think of all the things we want that used to be in the palm of our hands just a month ago that we can’t have now. We want our nails done, we want to go to the beach, we want to go out to eat, we want to go into the stores and the shelves be full, we want to go to Sonic after 10 p.m. & we want to have gatherings larger than 10 people. We want all the things we take for granted. Selfishly, I want what I can’t have right now too. I have realized all the things I take for granted. I also think about all of the healthcare heroes & essential business workers who are putting their lives on the front lines of COVID-19. It's so many people working along side one another to save lives. I’m sure when they are having their morning coffee, they’re not thinking about the first thing they’re going to do when this is over. They’re thinking about, “Will I get sick?” or “How will I keep my family safe?” My hope is that we live in a more simple world at the end of all of this. I hope that we will be more grateful for the full shelves, the family time, the beach trips, our sit down restaurant meals, and our late night sonic runs. I hope that the world as a whole has grown closer to God & that the world is more kind to one another. I hope that we’ve learned that we actually like stay at home meals & game nights more than going out. My hope is that we thank healthcare & essential workers more often and not only during a world pandemic. My hope is that we worship God more often and not only during a world pandemic. If you would like to make a donation towards health heroes and their families, follow this link to purchase the t-shirt.. Xoxo, Kourt I know if any of y’all are like us, the FIRST thing you’re doing after this
stay-at-home order + coronavirus pandemic is over will be going to the nail salon. Luckily, we had an awesome nail kit from Amazon on hand, so we thought it’d be fun to share how to get salon quality nails at home! All you need is: dip kit, nail file, drill (optional), & patience Step 1: SOAK OFF NAILS If you currently have SNS or dip powder on, it’s best you soak them off! We tried the “tik tok Tutorial”. To do this all you do is get a bowl of warm water, a ziplock bag, paper towel, and acetone. You’ll want to put the paper towel in the bag, soak in acetone, then put your hand in the bag then in the hot water. Simply just rub your fingers on the paper towel until the SNS or dip powder comes off. Step 2: BUFF & SHAPE NAILS We used a nail drill and a nail file. We found out the nail file actually does wonders! Buffing nails is important to get the excess SNS off and prepare your nails for the dip powder! Step 3: APPLY BASE COAT & DIP This step is pretty simple. Also, it may look a little wacky at first, but this is where the nail file comes in later. Just apply base cost each time before you dip each nail. You’ll want to dip each nail 3x minimum to make sure they are not crackable. Step 4: BUFF NAILS, AGAIN No one like blocks for fingernails! First, apply the activator liquid to all of your nails and allow them to dry. Now, is when you can smooth out the dip powder. This keeps the dip powder from breaking off when buffing. You just buff your nails until you love the look! Make sure they are smooth and thin. After buffing, you can always add one more dip just to make sure the tips are covered where they were filed. Step 5: TOP COAT! Apply top coat 3x for a shiny seal! Step 6: CUTICLE OIL It’s best to wait for the top coat to dry before applying cuticle oil. Step 7: ENJOY YOUR HOME MANI! Tag us @fashionfluentsisters in your at home mani! Xoxo, Kam Hey y’all! Welcome to our Fashion Fluent Blog! We thought it would be fitting for our first post to explain who we are and why we are here, so here it goes…
In April 2020, in the middle of a world pandemic and a local stay-at-home order...we decided to find a positive in the panic and fused our sisterhood with something we are all three passionate about...Fashion! This fuse also brought two more things to light:
With me, Kassidy, being a Graphic Designer, Kourtlyn in Healthcare Administration, and Kamryn currently studying to be an Occupational Therapist, it was so clear to us that we all have that same drive to help others. While all three of us are on different career paths and at different stages in our lives, we all still bond over fashion, beauty, home décor, and finding good deals. We thought this was the perfect opportunity to launch our sister site so that we can continue doing what we do best; shop, find great deals, and SHARE them with our followers! We have decided to open up our lives to the public in order to share our fashion finds with you! Our goal is to provide y’all with discount codes for some awesome steals, giveaways (because freebies are always fun!), and three great personalities behind it all! We look forward to spending more time with y’all and getting to know you, your style, and what you want to see from us! If you have something in mind you would like for us to post, share, shop for, or discuss on our blog, please visit our contact page and send us a message! We will be happy to take it into consideration and get back to you with a response as soon as possible! Xoxo, Kass |
